How to apply Smith & Nephew Allevyn Tracheostomy Dressing?
- Cleanse the wound in accordance with normal procedures
- Prepare and clean the skin surrounding the tracheostomy tube by removing excess moisture
- Fit the Allevyn dressing around the stoma or tracheostomy tube
- Apply the white, patterned surface of the dressing toward the patients neck
- If required, the dressing may be cut to shape
- Additional fixation, such as Opsite Flexigrid Transparent Film Dressing or Hypafix Non-Woven Adhesive Dressing Sheet may be used to secure the dressing
- During the early stages of treatment, the tracheostomy site should be inspected frequently
- Allevyn Tracheostomy Non-Adhesive Apertured Hydrocellular dressings can be left in place undisturbed for up to 7 days, or until exudate is visible and approaches 3/4″ from the edge of the dressing
Removal of Allevyn Foam Dressing
- Remove the retention dressing or bandage and lift the dressing away from the wound

- Do not use dressings with oxidizing agents such as hypochlorite solutions (eg. Dakins) or hydrogel peroxide, as these can break down the absorbent polyurethane component of the dressing
