What is Triad Cream?
Triad Cream is a unique wound care product that combines the benefits of a protective ointment and a moisture barrier cream. This zinc oxide-based product is designed to treat and protect skin from damage due to pressure ulcers, minor burns, and moisture-associated skin irritation. Triad Cream is ideal for use on wounds where the skin is fragile or where traditional wound dressings are impractical. Its thick, pasty consistency allows it to adhere to moist areas without the need for dressings, providing an effective protective barrier while promoting healing. The cream is particularly useful in hard-to-dress areas like the sacrum, coccyx, and perineum. Triad Cream’s ability to resist moisture makes it perfect for use in incontinence-related wounds, as it shields the skin from further damage while maintaining a moist wound environment conducive to healing.
Contraindications
Triad Dressing is not suggested to be used on the following:
- Third degree burns
- Infected wounds
How does Triad Cream for Wounds work?
Coloplast Triad Wound Dressing works through its unique design and properties to promote optimal wound healing. Here’s how it works:
- Hydrophilic Properties: The dressing is hydrophilic, meaning it has an affinity for water and readily absorbs wound exudate (fluid) from the wound bed
- Moisture Management: Once the dressing comes into contact with wound exudate, it absorbs the fluid, transforming into a gel-like consistency. This gel helps maintain a moist environment around the wound, which is known to promote faster and more effective healing
- Moist Wound Healing: The moist environment created by the dressing supports several essential aspects of wound healing. It facilitates the migration of healthy cells, such as fibroblasts, to the wound site, promoting the formation of new tissue (granulation). It also helps prevent the formation of dry scabs, which can impede healing
- Non-Adherent Surface: The Triad cream has a non-adherent surface that minimizes trauma and pain during dressing changes. It prevents the dressing from sticking to the wound bed, reducing the risk of disruption to the healing process and minimizing discomfort for the patient
- Absorbency: The dressing has excellent absorbent capabilities, effectively managing moderate to heavily exuding wounds. It can absorb and retain a significant amount of wound exudate, preventing excessive moisture buildup and reducing the risk of maceration (softening of surrounding skin due to excess moisture)
- Bacterial Barrier: The dressing acts as a protective barrier against external contaminants, reducing the risk of infection. It helps create an environment that is unfavorable for bacterial growth, promoting a clean and sterile wound-healing process
